DescriptionThe 2 Mark-stamp was issued on 1966, 13 XII.
During the period 1966-1969 the German Federal Republic (GFR) and West Berlin brought into circulation a set of 15 stamps with the theme "German buildings through 12 ages". Most of the buildings are in the former GFR . Three buildings are in the area of the GDR (East Germany), two in today's Poland and one in the former Soviet Union, now Russia. On 5 Pfg is a picture of the Brama Portowa (Berliner Tor) in Szczecin. The inscription: STETTIN / POMMERN. On the 2 DM stamp is the gothic council hall in Lwówek Sląski. This is a small city in Southwest Poland. The inscription: LÖWENBERG/SCHLESIEN. Because of the cold war situation, the countries involved protested against this "western aggression". Stamps used for letters to communistic countries were refused, or the stamps were made unrecognisable.
